Post World War II Japan gave life to their recovering economy by producing products largely purchased by United States consumers. Much of what Japan created was some form of novelty, either decorative or useful. Among the more intricate and clever items the Japanese made for household use are the sterling silver figural salt and pepper shakers. The sterling silver figural salt and pepper shakers were commonly shaped to look like traditional objects commonly associated with Japan. Niederkorn Silver presents in this exhibit a collection of over 70 pairs of Japanese figural salt and pepper shakers dating primarily from the 1940s to the 1950s.
